Children’s painting & 3D art classes in Mejiro

A 7-minute walk from Mejiro Station on the JR Yamanote Line (on the 3rd floor of a building facing Mejiro-dori). An art school where children from age 3 through elementary, junior high and high school learn painting, 3D art and arts & crafts in a dedicated studio. Since opening in 2012, it has welcomed children from Mejiro, Shimo-Ochiai and Takadanobaba.

What we value at Mejiro Studio

GAJYUKU teaches hands-on painting and 3D art according to the same educational approach at every studio. Our goal is not a “polished” piece of work or “being good at it.” We believe the joy and sense of achievement that come from making something with their own hands is what builds children’s confidence. We don’t make everyone keep in step; we value time when each child can enjoy creating at their own pace. What matters is not the finished piece but what children feel, discover and think along the way. The process itself is the artwork. And throughout the year, the children immerse themselves in that creative process as they work toward our annual exhibition.

Small classes, so we can give every child our attention

To bring out each child’s individuality, Mejiro Studio limits classes to 8 children and staffs each class according to its size. Classes are taught by art specialists who work as artists, designers and illustrators. Mejiro Studio has less space than our other studios, so its classes are even smaller.

Who it’s for & classes

Preschool Class (ages 3–6, kindergarten/nursery): enjoy the basics of painting and 3D art, weekly or biweekly
Elementary Class (ages 6–12): serious, ongoing hands-on study
Teen Class (junior & senior high): specialist work such as drawing and three-dimensional art
Combined Preschool & Elementary Class (Sat/Sun): preschoolers and elementary students together
